Things To Bring:

  • Personal toiletry articles (shampoo, soap, disposable razors, etc.)

  • Insect Repellent with DEET

  • Anti-Malarial Medicine

  • Sunscreen

  • Sunglasses (with polarized lenses)

  • Camera (Disposable Waterproof Camera?)

  • Flashlight with extra batteries and bulb (a good head lamp is a great replacement)

  • Alarm Clock

  • Small personal first aid kit with various medicines (Pepto-Bismol, Benadryl, anti itch cream, Aspirin, Imodium, antiseptic ointment e.g. Neosporin, Antibiotics)

  • Water Bottle

  • Fannypack or small backpack, weather proof.

  • Ziploc bags to make things water proof

 

Clothes To Bring: (keep in mind that mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors):

  • T-Shirts

  • undergarments

  • Swim suit

  • Lightweight long sleeve shirt (A TRUE LIFE SAVER)

  • Lightweight pants

  • Old tennis shoes that can get wet

  • Tennis shoes or other canvas-topped shoes….(dry quickly, with rubber soles. These should be broken in already; you don’t want to get blisters on your Amazon trip) OR Comfortable “hiking” shoes

  • Lightweight hat with a brim

  • Avoid jeans and other heavy items of clothing which take a long time to dry.

 

 

Climate:

The Iquitos area, is 4 degrees south of the Equator, is characterized by strong tropical sun and a warm humid climate. The dominant vegetation is rain forest. Temperature varies from the mid- to mid-high 90's F during the day, night-time temperatures can drop some 10 degrees. Rain normally occurs during the afternoon or night, and humidity levels are high (90-100% every day).
